On March 28, 2000, an F3 tornado ravaged parts of Fort Worth, Texas. The only remnant of the event stands at a busy downtown intersection: tornado-bent steel beams in front of a mural by a USPS office.
I would pass by this monument nearly every day growing up, always fascinated by how a natural disaster could leave behind such a sight. My creative process for the Canes content was inspired by this monument and by being in the eye of a hurricane.
To bring this vision to life, I created concepts that juxtapose serenity and chaos. A clash between dark and light visuals is present, along with blurs and grainy textures that symbolize wind, debris, and rain. Influences of surrealism and Gen X soft club aesthetics are meant to be unique while also evoking tension and introspection, much like the “calm before the storm.” The concept also include subtle visual metaphors and touches of Hurricanes Red.
